How much does a tow cost in Chicago?

How much does a tow cost in Chicago?

Light-duty hook fees start at $75 plus disclosed mileage, quoted before we dispatch. Typical local tows under 10 miles total $75-$175. Heavy-duty hook fees start at $285. Motorcycle, RV, long-distance, and specialty (exotic, classic) are priced separately, always in writing. You hear the number before the truck rolls.

Do you charge extra at night, weekends, or holidays?

The line is answered 24/7. Ask what the call costs when you ring, including any after-hours charge, and you will have the number before the truck rolls.

What payment methods do you accept?

Credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Zelle, and cash. Payment is taken at the drop-off; the driver runs a card reader on the truck.

Do you work with insurance or motor clubs?

Yes. AAA, Allstate, Geico, USAA, State Farm, and most major motor clubs route calls through us. Call your insurance or motor club first if you have coverage - they typically dispatch directly and cover the tow.

How fast can you get to me?

How fast can you get to me?

Nobody can honestly answer that before they know where you are and which operator is free. Calls inside the city and the inner ring usually run faster than Joliet, Elgin, Aurora and the outer collar counties, where the distance alone adds time. Ask your operator for a window when they take the job, and treat a company that quotes you an arrival time before it knows your address as guessing.

What areas do you cover?

We cover 35 places across the Chicago metro: the six sides of the city itself, the north and northwest suburbs from Evanston out to Schaumburg, the west suburbs from Oak Park out to Aurora and Elgin, the south and southwest suburbs from Oak Lawn to Chicago Heights, and the Will County freight corridor through Joliet. All of it is in Illinois. Northwest Indiana is deliberately not covered, so if your car went missing east of the state line in Hammond or Gary, that is a different state's law and we will say so rather than guess.

Do you respond to freeways?

Yes. The Kennedy, the Dan Ryan, the Eisenhower, the Stevenson, the Edens, the Bishop Ford, the Tri-State, I-88, I-57 and I-80. IDOT runs an Emergency Traffic Patrol on the Chicago-area expressways, the crews known as the Minutemen, and they clear hazards and restore traffic flow rather than towing you. If police are on scene the officer decides who tows and where it goes; inside the city that means a City of Chicago pound, and in a suburb it means that village's own impound.

What if I break down out near Joliet, Elgin or one of the collar counties?

An operator comes to you. Joliet, Elgin, Aurora and the far edge of Will County sit far enough out that the distance itself adds time, but the gear is the same. Pin-drop your location or give the nearest exit, cross street or mile marker when you call.

Which tow truck does my car need?

Flatbed or wheel-lift - which does my car need?

AWD, 4WD, and all EVs must go flatbed - no exceptions. Wheel-lift works fine for standard FWD or RWD sedans and most trucks. Lowered, damaged, or luxury vehicles should go flatbed for safety. Tell us year/make/model when you call and we route the right truck.

Can you tow my Tesla or EV?

Yes. Every EV needs a flatbed - the drive motors stay engaged with the wheels. We move Teslas, Rivians, Mustang Mach-Es, Lucids, and Hummer EVs regularly. If the battery is completely dead and the transport mode will not engage, we have workarounds.

Do you tow motorcycles and RVs?

Yes. Motorcycles get low-deck flatbeds with soft straps. Class A, B, C motorhomes and fifth-wheels all handled with our heavy wreckers. We tell you on the phone what truck is coming.

Can you do long-distance tows out of Chicago?

Yes. Chicago is where the interstates meet, so common runs go to Milwaukee, Rockford, Indianapolis, Detroit, St. Louis and downstate Illinois. Written quotes for the whole route. Scheduled pickups preferred, same-day available for emergencies.

Do you offer roadside help besides towing?

Can you jump-start my car?

Yes. The operators we send carry high-capacity jump packs. If the battery is the only issue, you drive away after a 10-minute idle. If the alternator or battery is bad, they tell you straight and can tow from the same call.

Will you change a flat tire for me?

Yes. The operator brings the tools and swaps the spare. On a freeway, we may recommend a short tow to a safe lot for the swap - freeway shoulder tire work is dangerous and often illegal without a lane closure.

Do you deliver fuel?

Yes. 2-gallon minimum, gas or diesel. Enough to get you to the nearest station. Fuel is charged at cost plus a small service fee.

Can you unlock my car?

Yes for most standard vehicles. Some newer models with transponder keys require a locksmith or dealer; we tell you on the phone whether we can help or you need a specialist.

Will my insurance cover the tow after an accident?

Will my insurance cover the tow after an accident?

Most comprehensive and collision policies cover post-accident towing. Call your insurer right after the tow and we provide a detailed invoice with scene location, reason, and destination - exactly what adjusters need.

Do you coordinate with Illinois State Police and local departments?

Yes. We coordinate with Illinois State Police, the Chicago Police Department, county sheriffs and suburban village departments on every type of accident scene. If law enforcement is on scene, we work directly with the officer on removal and destination, and the officer decides where the vehicle goes.

Can you tow a vehicle to a specific body shop?

Yes. Your car goes where you want it. Operators deliver to any shop, dealer or storage yard across the Chicago metro, and coordinate long-distance delivery to out-of-area destinations.

How does private property and HOA towing work?

Can my HOA or apartment get a private-property agreement?

Yes, and Illinois handles this differently from most states, so it is worth being precise. In Cook, Will, Kane, DuPage and Winnebago counties a tow from private property is a relocation under 625 ILCS 5/18a, and it may only be performed by a commercial vehicle relocator licensed by the Illinois Commerce Commission. We are not that licensee and we do not pretend to be. What we do is connect property managers, HOAs and retail landlords with relocators who hold that licence, and help them get the signage right: at least 24 inches high by 36 inches wide, mounted at least 4 feet off the ground but less than 8, illuminated or painted with reflective paint or both, naming the relocator and stating the towing charge. Without those signs the removal is unlawful under 18a-300(10).

What do I do if my car was towed from private property?

First work out who towed it, because there are three different answers. If a private property had it relocated, the relocator had to notify local police within one hour of the removal, so the police in that jurisdiction can tell you where it went; the relocator also cannot take it more than 10 air miles from where it was parked, or 15 from an unincorporated area. If the City of Chicago towed it, call 311, because the city also relocates vehicles rather than impounding them, and the published fees are $250 to tow under 8,000 pounds or $350 at or above, plus $50 or $100 per day storage, cash or major card only. If a suburb towed it, call that village directly, because its impound and its administrative fee are its own. And if you could not reach the relocator by phone for a full hour after your first attempt, Illinois law says all towing and storage fees are waived.
